BLACKSBURG, Va. – First-year sophomore Sean Holston (Springfield, Va.) set a new Norfolk State school record in the 300 meters on Friday night to highlight the Spartans' first-day efforts at the Virginia Tech Hokie Invitational.
Holston finished second in the 300 in a time of 33.36 seconds. He was beaten out by Georgia's Torrin Lawrence, who ran a blistering 32.32. Both marks topped the previous Rector Field House record of 33.44. Holston's clocking also beat out Troy Wilkerson's school-record time of 34.43 set on the same track in 2007.
Holston wasn't the only Spartan to run well in first-day action. Sophomore Quinten Walker (Hampton, Va.) ran a PR of 6.82 seconds to place third in the 60 meters. Junior Aramis Massenburg (Ettrick, Va.) also earned a third-place finish in his event. He ran a season-best time of 7.94 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles.
The meet resumes on Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
