NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk State women's basketball hits the road for two games this weekend. The Spartans play at Winston-Salem State at 2 p.m. on Saturday and at South Carolina State at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
NSU (2-11, 0-5 MEAC) went 0-2 over the weekend, falling 63-59 in overtime to Hampton on Saturday and 55-46 to Howard on Monday. Against Hampton, Tyisha Bridges (Greensboro, N.C.) had a season-high 15 points, while Marian Brooks (Woodbridge, Va.) grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds. In the Howard game, Whitney Long (Raleigh, N.C.) led NSU with 15 points and Genor Dalton (Martinsville, Va.) dropped in a career-high 14. Recca Trice also had a career outing against Howard, tallying 11 rebounds and eight assists.
Long, who also scored in double figures against Hampton (14 points), leads the team in scoring at 11.8 points per game. Batavia Owens (Norfolk, Va.) is the top rebounder, grabbing 4.7 rebounds per contest. As a team, the Spartans are shooting 35.3 percent from the field (258-of-731), 22.2 percent from 3-point range (28-of-126) and 64.4 percent from the free-throw line
(172-of-259).
