Adams, Morgan State Run Past Spartans in 70-55 Victory

NORFOLK, Va. — Corin Adams had a team-high 19 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field to help the Morgan State women's basketball team to a 70-55 victory over Norfolk State on Sunday afternoon at Echols Hall. Adams added seven rebounds, three steals and three assists in a game-high 35 minutes.

Morgan State (10-9, 6-1 MEAC) came out hot to start the game and jumped out to a quick 23-8 lead after a 3-pointer by Brittany Noel with 10:07 left in the first half. But NSU (3-13, 0-7 MEAC) slowly cut down the deficit, coming within three, 31-28, after a layup by Genor Dalton (Martinsville, Va.) with 1:33 left in the half. The Lady Bears went into halftime up six, 35-29.

MSU dominated the second half and led by as many as 21, 62-41, after a free throw by Aaries Reed with 5:29 left in the game. A bucket by Dalton with 33 seconds left in the game got the Spartans within 15, 70-55, and ended the scoring for the game.

MSU shot 41.9 percent (26-of-62) from the field for the game, including 26.3 percent (5-of-19) from beyond the arc. The Lady Bears connected on 13 of their 24 free-throw attempts, had 38 rebounds and 12 steals and forced 22 Spartan turnovers.

NSU was 19-of-46 (41.3 percent) from the field, 2-of-9 (22.2 percent) from 3-point range and 15-of-27 (55.6 percent) from the charity stripe. The Spartans had 34 rebounds, four steals and forced 16 Lady Bear turnovers.

Georgien Williams was the Lady Bears' next leading scorer with nine points. Kristina Rosario grabbed a team-high eight boards.

Dalton poured in a game- and career-high 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field. She added three rebounds, one steal and one assist in 29 minutes. Tiora Hackley (Virginia Beach, Va.) had 11 points and made both of the Spartans' 3-point baskets. Batavia Owens (Norfolk, Va.) had a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Spartans get little time to rest as they take on Coppin State tomorrow at Echols Hall. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
