Game Notes
Community Day Promotion

NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk State (3-5, 2-4 MEAC) returns home to the confines of William “Dick” Price Stadium this week to host the Morgan State Bears (4-4, 3-2) on Community Day. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. at Dick Price Stadium.

NSU will be looking for its second straight win overall, and fourth straight over the Bears.

The Spartans snapped a four-game losing streak last Saturday with a hard-fought 10-9 win at Howard University in Washington, D.C. The story of the game was the Spartan defense, which allowed Howard to gain just 78 yards of total offense – the fewest by an NSU opponent this season and the fi fth-fewest in any Division I FCS game this year. The Spartans yielded just 44 yards rushing on 40 carries and 34 total passing yards. Nose guard Josh Turner led the charge with a season-high 10 tackles, two for a loss, and one sack. Linebacker Hasan Craig added a season-high eight tackles, 1.5 for loss. DeAngelo Branche scored NSU's only TD on an 18-yard run in the second quarter.

Morgan State had its two-game winning streak stopped last week in a 31-17 loss at Florida A&M in Tallahassee, Fla. FAMU outgained the Bears 381-252 in total offense. One bright spot was the running of David Brown, who gained 124 yards on the ground on 17 carries. Quarterback Delonte Williams passed for 115 and one touchdown, but was only able to complete 7 of 22 passes. Still, MSU tied the game at 17-all early in the fourth quarter on Williams' 19-yard TD pass to Chuka Okakpu. But FAMU took the lead for good on an interception return for touchdown with just more than seven minutes left, and the Rattlers' Philip Sylvester put the game away with an 88-yard TD run four minutes later.
