Ohio Sends NSU to 9th Straight Loss, 92-56

ATHENS, Ohio
– Tommy Freeman scored 19 points to lead six Ohio players in double figures, and the host Bobcats dealt Norfolk State its ninth straight loss, 92-56, on Thursday night at the Convocation Center.

The Bobcats (7-6) shot 51.7 percent from the floor and hit 13-of-26 3-pointers while holding the Spartans (1-10) to 32.1 percent shooting.

NSU held just one lead, at 2-0, after a jumper by Kyle O'Quinn on the game's first possession, before Ohio surged into the lead for good. The Bobcats led 20-10 midway through the first half before extending the lead to 29-11 with a 9-1 run. NSU made just 8 of its 30 first-half field goals (26.7 percent) and trailed by 15 at the break.

Things didn't get better for the Spartans in the second half as Ohio hit 9-of-14 (64.3 percent) from behind the arc. The Bobcats scored the first six points of the second half to extend their lead to 21. The edge eventually swelled over 40 points as Ohio went on a 12-0 run. A 3-pointer by David McKinley with 5:30 left gave the hosts their largest lead, at 89-44. The 36-point margin of defeat was NSU's largest of the season.

T.J. Hall added 14 points, DeVaughn Washington had 12, Reggie Keely and D.J. Cooper scored 11 apiece, and Ivo Baltic chipped in 10 for Ohio. Cooper added a game-high 10 assists and Hall had a game-high seven rebounds for the Bobcats, who also outrebounded NSU 48-29.

Freshman guard Pendarvis Williams tied his career high with 13 points to lead the Spartans in scoring. Rob Hampton added 11 points and Chris McEachin added eight, both off the bench, for NSU.

The Spartans play at Duquesne at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
