NORFOLK, Va.
— Norfolk State guard Michael Deloach (Rocky Mount, N.C.) made it a Senior Night to remember, scoring 31 points in his final home game as a Spartan to lead NSU to its fourth straight win, 82-62, over South Carolina State on Monday night at Echols Hall.

Deloach was 12-of-17 from the floor, 3-of-6 from behind the arc, and added five steals, four assists and three boards for NSU (9-17, 7-6 MEAC), which has won three straight games by at least 20 points for the first time since 1993-94. Center Joseph Dorsett-Jeffreys (Bronx, N.Y.) also shined in his final home game at NSU, scoring 12 points to go with six rebounds. Rob Hampton (Queens, N.Y.) scored 19 points (15 in the second half) and Tim Zephyr (Bronx, N.Y.) added 11.

Deloach nearly matched the Bulldogs' output in the first half, scoring 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting to help NSU to a 36-22 halftime lead. Deloach hit all three of his first-half treys in span of a little more than seven minutes as NSU's bulge reached as much as 19 in the opening stanza. NSU forced 16 of SCSU's 22 turnovers in the first half, which led to 23 Spartan points.

SCSU (14-12, 8-6) got as close as nine points in the second half. Arsenio Williams' putback with 7:02 left cut the Spartans' lead to 57-48. But NSU answered with the next six points to put the game out of reach. Hampton hit a jumper, then fed Deloach for a fast-break layup.

Deloach then had one of his many highlight-reel plays. He stole an inbounds pass near the top of the key in SCSU's end, dribbled coast-to-coast, bounced the ball off the floor to himself and slammed it home for a 63-48 Spartans' lead. The play was later selected as the No. 3 play on ESPN's SportsCenter daily top 10 highlights.

NSU shot 54 percent for the game, including 58 percent in the second half. NSU also finished with 18 assists, five from Hampton and four each from Deloach and Aleek Pauline (Jamaica, N.Y.)

Kyle O'Quinn (Jamaica, N.Y.) led all Spartans with seven rebounds.

Jason Flagler scored 16 points, Darnell Porter had 13 and Brandon Smalls 11 for the Bulldogs.

NSU is on the road for its final three games of the season, beginning this Saturday at Morgan State.
