BALTIMORE, Md. — Corin Adams scored a game-high 21 points and led four Morgan State women's basketball players in double figures as the Lady Bears defeated Norfolk State 80-62 on Saturday afternoon at Hill Field House. Adams was 8-of-16 from the floor, including 2-of-8 from beyond the arc, and added eight assists, five rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
In the first half, NSU (4-20, 0-14 MEAC) kept things close early and trailed by one, 10-9, after a layup by Tyisha Bridges Greensboro, N.C.) with 12:46 left in the first half. MSU (15-12, 10-4 MEAC) led by as many as 14 (32-1) in the opening period and took a 36-27 lead into halftime.
The Spartans went on a 12-3 run to start the second half to tie the game at 39-all after a layup by Raychele Payne (Newport News, Va.) with 16:44 left in the game. But a 3-pointer by Brittany Dodson at the 15:43 mark gave the Lady Bears a lead they would maintain for the rest of the game. A jumper by Abby Diagne with 23 seconds left ended the scoring for the game and kept the Spartans winless in conference play.
For MSU, Erin Hawkins had 14 points and four steals, while Dodson and Kristina Rosario had 10 points each.
Bridges, Payne and Whitney Long (Raleigh, N.C.) each tallied 12 points for NSU. Marian Brooks (Woodbridge, Va.) had 10 points and seven rebounds and Genor Dalton (Martinsville, Va.) added a game-high eight rebounds to go with her eight points.
The Spartans stay in Baltimore to take on Coppin State at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
