Women’s Tennis Blanks Chowan 7-0 for 1st Win of 2010

NORFOLK, Va.
– The Spartan women's tennis won its first dual match of the season on Saturday afternoon at the NSU Tennis Complex, blanking visiting Chowan 7-0.

The NSU women (1-3) lost a total of two games in the three doubles matches and two in the six singles matches to defeat the Hawks (1-3).

Jennifer Astbury (Chesapeake, Va.) and Naeemah Brooks (Galloway, N.J.) took an 8-2 decision at No. 1 doubles to improve to 2-0 as a team this season. The teams of Chenge Tsapayi (Harare, Zimbabwe) and Rebecca Graff (Bastad, Sweden) (No. 2) as well as Brittany Foster (Norfolk, Va.) and Ashley Foster (Norfolk, Va.) (No. 3) both rolled to 8-0 victories over their opponents.

All six NSU women won their singles matches in straight sets. The Foster sisters, Brooks and Tsapayi all won 6-0, 6-0.

NSU hits the road for five matches this week in a MEAC round robin affair in Sumter, S.C. The Spartans face Bethune-Cookman and North Carolina A&T on Thursday, South Carolina State on Friday, and Winston-Salem State on Saturday.
