BALTIMORE, Md. — Jeanine Manley scored a game-high 28 points on 12-of-16 shooting from the field to lead the Coppin State women's basketball team to a 73-50 win over Norfolk State at the Physical Education Complex on Monday night. Manley had 17 points in the second half and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds.
Things were close for the entire first half. The largest lead CSU (10-17, 5-10 MEAC) held in the opening period was 11 points, 25-14, after a three-point play by Manley at the 9:48 mark. But NSU (4-21, 0-15) closed the gap and was only down seven, 38-31, at halftime.
Manley scored 10 straight points for the Lady Eagles to start the second half which was capped by another three-point play with 14:24 left in the game. CSU slowly pulled away from the Spartans and led b y as many as 25, 73-48, with less than a minute left in the contest.
For the game, CSU shot 50.8 percent (31-of-61) from the field compared to NSU's 35.8 percent (19-of-53). The Lady Eagles also beat the Spartans on 45-25 the boards.
Lakeytah Irving had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Eagles.
Recca Trice (Arlington, Texas) led NSU with a career-high 12 points. Marian Brooks (Woodbridge, Va.) led the defense with eight rebounds.
The Spartans travel to Greensboro, N.C. on Thursday for the regular-season finale. They take on MEAC regular-season champion North Carolina A&T at 5:30 p.m.
