NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State freshman Silvia Panush (Sofia, Bulgaria) earned a hard-fought victory at No. 5 singles (6-7, 6-4 (10-5)), while teammates Naeemah Brooks (Galloway, N.J.) and Ashley Foster (Norfolk, Va.) posted wins at Nos. 2 and 6 singles, respectively, but it was not enough as the Liberty University women's tennis team defeated NSU 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon at the NSU Tennis Complex.
Liberty (3-9) won the doubles point when Jordan Jenkins and Carol Lobel downed Jennifer Astbury (Chesapeake, Va.) and Brooks 8-3 at No. 1. Nadia Solomon-Burgess and Fabiana Gouveia took the No. 2 match with an 8-1 victory over Rebecca Graff (Bastad, Sweden) and Chenge Tsapayi (Harare, Zimbabwe). After that, the Lady Flames just needed three singles wins and got them at Nos. 1, 3 and 4.
NSU (3-10) hosts North Carolina Central at noon on Saturday.
