Woodbury Leads WSSU Over NSU 2-1

NORFOLK, Va. — Winston-Salem State catcher Kayla Woodbury hit a two-run home run to center field in the top of the first inning to carry the Lady Rams to a 2-1 win over Norfolk State on Sunday at the NSU Softball Field.

NSU got its only run of the game in the bottom of the fifth when senior shortstop Jamie Raab(Houston, Texas) singled to second base to score right fielder Meagan Long(Virginia Beach, Va.).

The Spartans had runners in scoring position in the seventh inning, but could not produce any runs.

Brittany Lane picked up the win after pitching a seven-inning, one-run complete game while striking out seven. Alyssa Velazquez(Aurora, Colo.) ended the year at 8-17 after giving up six hits and two earned runs in seven innings.

Second baseman Britney Cato led WSSU (9-27) by going 2-for-3. NSU Senior Day honoree Brianeisha Eure (Virginia Beach, Va.) was a perfect 4-for-4. Raab was 1-for-3 with a walk and one RBI.

NSU ends the season at 14-28 and did not qualify for the MEAC Tournament.
