Holston Places 6th in 400 at Tyson Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.Sean Holston recorded a season-best time of 46.67 seconds to place sixth in the 400 meter dash on Friday night at the Tyson Invitational.

Holston bettered his own MEAC-best time by .2 seconds on Friday and won his heat at the Tyson Invitational, one of the more competitive regular-season indoor meets in the country. There were 22 heats run in the 400 meters Friday featuring a number of the nation's top quarter-milers, including Holston. His time was also just .08 off of his own school indoor record, set last year at Penn State.

Also on Friday, sophomore Kenneth Smith placed fourth in his 400 heat (49.01), while sophomores James Taylor and Keith Nkrumah performed well in their events. Taylor won his 60-meter preliminary heat in 6.74 seconds and followed that up with a 6.76 in the semis. He qualified for the consolation finals, where he placed second in 6.74. Likewise, Nkrumah clocked an 8.04 in the prelims of the 60 hurdles and an 8.01 in the semis. He also qualified for the consolation finals, placing third in 7.99 seconds.

That quartet of Spartans will also compete in the 4x400 relay on Saturday, looking to improve on their No. 16 national ranking. A number of other Spartans will be in action at the Vince Brown Invitational, hosted by Christopher Newport University in Newport News.
