Men's 4x400 Relay Team Posts Season-Best Time in Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.
- The NSU men's track team's 4x400 meter relay team ran a season-best tmie of 3 minutes, 9.4 seconds to take fourth place in the event at the prestigious Tyson Invitational hosted by the University of Arkansas.

The quarter of Sean Holston, Keith Nkrumah, James Taylor and Kenneth Smith won its heat. Only three teams in heat 1 (South Plains, LSU and Arkansas) clocked better times than the Spartans.

NSU's time is not only its season-best 4x400 relay time, but is currently the 13th-fastest time in Division I this season and tops in the MEAC.

The rest of the men's track team competed at the Vince Brown Invitational hosted by Christopher Newport in Newport News, Va. Rashad Cannon took the only individual event title, winning the long jump with a best leap of 24 feet, 1.5 inches. Teammate Darris Shelton was second (23-4.5).

Sophomore Ramaan Ansley placed second – first among collegiate runners – with a time of 6.83 seconds in the 60 meters. In distance races, junior Philemon Kimutai ran a personal-best time of 4:15.83 and finished third in the mile. Classmate Amos Kipkosgei was second in the 3,000 meters (8:48.59).

Freshman Robert Thrasher cleared a personal-best height of 6-6 to place fifth in the high jump.

The Spartan men will compete for their sixth consecutive MEAC indoor crown this Thursday through Saturday at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex in Landover, Md.
