Match Results

NORFOLK, Va.
– The Norfolk State women's tennis team capped its regular season with a 7-0 loss to Longwood Wednesday afternoon at the NSU Tennis Courts.

The Lancers (6-7) won all three doubles matches and won five of the six singles matches in straight sets to drop the Spartans to 4-16 overall this season.

Senior Chenge Tsapayi forced her match into a third-set tiebreaker against Allison Shulman at No. 4 singles. Shulman won the first set, 6-4, before Tsapayi took the second, 6-2. Shulman, though, kept the Longwood sweep intact with a 10-4 victory in the tiebreaker.

In doubles play, junior Naeemah Brooks and freshman Gabriella Jonsson fought hard but came up short in an 8-6 win against Zsofia Jakab and Marta Pinyol at No. 1 doubles. Senior Jennifer Astbury and sophomore Rebecca Graff fell by an 8-2 score to Shulman and Bethany Law at the second position, while Tsapayi and freshman Maryna Kariuk also lost by an 8-2 margin to Hannah Hill and Nicole Parker at No. 3 doubles.

Brooks faced Veronika Bohm at No. 3 singles, but Bohm proved to be too much in a 6-4, 6-1 win. Pinyol downed Jonsson at the second singles slot, 6-0, 6-3, while Jakab earned an 6-2, 6-1 win over Astbury at the top of the lineup.

Graff fell to Sarah Moomau at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0, while Parker handled Kariuk at the No. 6 position by a 6-2, 6-4 score.

NSU will wrap up its season at the MEAC tournament beginning Friday. The Spartans will take on Howard Friday at 8:30 a.m. at the Millbrook Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C.
