RALEIGH, N.C. – Howard eliminated the Norfolk State women's tennis team at the MEAC Championship on Friday morning with a 4-0 victory over the Spartans at the Millbrook Tennis Center.
The Bison won the No. 2 and 3 doubles matches for the early 1-0 lead, then swept the fourth, fifth and sixth singles positions for the win. Howard improved to 11-8 on the season, while NSU finished the year 4-17 overall.
Brittney Morgan and Brooke Hawthorne got things going for the Bison with an 8-2 victory over senior

Rebecca Graff at No. 2 doubles, 8-2. Anne Akhimien and Alyssa Works also won, 8-2, over freshman

Akhimien downed Kariuk again, this time at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-0, while Works took care of Tsapayi at the fifth position, 6-1, 6-2. Hawthorne gave Howard the win at No. 3 singles, defeating Graff by a 6-0, 6-2 score.
In the other matches, Strokes led Astbury, 6-2, 4-1, at the No. 1 position, while Brown held a 6-3, 2-1 lead over Brooks at the third singles slot. Morgan defeated Jonsson, 6-3, in the first set at No. 2 singles, while Jonsson led by a 3-2 score in the second set before the match was called for good.
