Shelton is Top Collegiate Finisher in Long Jump at Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Norfolk State sophomore Darris Shelton leapt 24 feet, 5.75 inches to take third place on Friday at the prestigious Florida Relays hosted by the University of Florida.

Shelton was the top collegiate finisher in a field which included a top-flight group of collegians and professional athletes. Both Shelton and junior teammate Rashad Cannon performed well despite jumping into a headwind. Cannon tied for sixth with a best effort of 24-3.

On the track, junior Sean Holston placed eighth in a deep field in the 200 meters. He ran a time of 20.93 seconds, sixth-best among collegiate runners in the event.

Also, sophomore Keith Nkrumah placed 18th out of 48 runners in a personal-best 400-meter hurdles time of 52.61 seconds. Nkrumah was also 12th out of 48 in the 100 hurdles (14.26).

Junior Josef Tessema also clocked a season-best time on Friday, coming in 24th out of 44 runners in the 1,500 meters in a time of 3:55.35.
