PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Norfolk State's 4x100 meter relay team ran a season-best time in placing third in its section, and long jumper Darris Shelton and Rashad Cannon both placed in the top five in the college long jump to pace the Spartan men at the Penn Relays this weekend.
The team of Ramaan Ansley, Sean Holston, Quinten Walker and Keith Nkrumah ran a season-best time of 40.32 seconds to take third place in the finals of the college 4x100. They finished behind only UTech of Jamaica (39.35) and St. Augustine's (40.13).
Individually, Cannon and Shelton both jumped 24 feet, 3 inches in the college long jump. Cannon finished in third place based on a longer previous jump, and Shelton was fifth.
Elsewhere, senior Aramis Massenburg placed 10th in the prelims of the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.09 seconds.
The Spartans will attempt to capture their sixth straight MEAC outdoor track & field title next weekend in Greensboro, N.C. The Spartans are also seeking their third straight MEAC indoor-outdoor sweep.
