NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State redshirt senior linebacker
Corwin Hammond was named Tuesday to the preseason watch list for the FCS Linebacker of the Year Award given by the College Football Performance Awards.
Hammond is one of 41 FCS linebackers on the preseason list by the CFPA, which gives out weekly and yearly positional awards based on objective, scientific ratings of the extent to which players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.
Hammond led the Spartans with 76 total tackles last season, including 11.0 for losses and 4.5 sacks. He also forced two fumbles and helped the Spartans finished third in the MEAC and sixth in the nation in total defense (284.1 yards per game).
Other MEAC linebackers on the list include Ryan Davis and Ryan Lewis of Bethune-Cookman, Keith Pough of Howard, Allen Stephens of Morgan State and Roger Stewart of North Carolina Central.
