NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State redshirt junior Blake Matthews was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week, the conference announced.

Matthews, the Spartans' starting right tackle, helped NSU gain 387 yards of total offense in a 23-9 win at Howard last Saturday. The Spartans rushed for 134 yards and passed for 253 to improve to 2-1 overall, 1-0 in the MEAC. Matthews graded out at 86 percent on his assignments, which included two “pancake” blocks, no penalties and no sacks allowed.

The Spartans have had a MEAC weekly award recipient in each of the season's first three weeks. However, this is the first weekly MEAC award of Matthews' career.
