NSU Gears for Last Regular Season Tourney on Saturday

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State volleyball team will compete in its last regular season tournament of the year at the High Point Invitational on Saturday, before returning home for three matches in four days next week at Joseph Echols Hall.

The Spartans will face the host Panthers at 1:30 p.m. and then Campbell at 4:30 at the Millis Center. Fans can follow all the action through the school's live stats, which will be available for both matches. A live video feed will be available for the first match against High Point.

NSU comes into the weekend holding a 2-7 record, having defeated North Carolina A&T last Friday before falling to Coastal Carolina and Davidson on Saturday at the Wildcat Classic. Junior Kristen Burt was named to the all-tournament team and leads the NSU offense with 8.67 assists per set.

Junior Charlotte Armstead continues to lead the offensive attack with 3.37 kills, with junior Beatriz Ferreira (2.37 kills) and freshman Adriana Ramos (2.23) also adding themselves into the mix. Armstead also leads in blocks with 0.73 per set, with junior Ashley Scott (0.67) and senior Jasmine Frazier (0.57) also pitching in. Despite missing last weekend's action, sophomore Noelle Eagles has averaged a team-best 4.38 digs.

Record Watch
Armstead is creeping closer to the all-time program record for block assists. She ranks fourth all-time with 118, just 15 away from tying the career mark set by Chanel Barnes. She's also moved herself closer to the program record for total blocks, where she needs just 68 more to tie the record. Armstead also ranks fifth all-time in kills and needs 316 more to tie the NSU career mark.

MEAC Leaderboard
Eagles and Armstead continue to lead the league in digs and hitting percentage, with Eagles sitting first at 4.38 digs per set and Armstead sitting atop the leaderboard with a .291 attack percentage. Burt ranks second in assists with 8.67, while Armstead sits fifth in kills (3.37) and sixth in points (3.82).

NSU as a team sits third in the MEAC in assists (10.30), kills (11.43) and digs (12.73), fourth in opponent hitting percentage (.218), fifth in blocks (1.60) and sixth in hitting percentage (.135).

About High Point
The Panthers own a 2-10 record on the season, recording wins over Charlotte and Navy, with a match against Campbell on Friday still on deck. The only common opponent between High Point and NSU is Davidson, a school that beat both of the other two by 3-0 scores.

Courtney Johnk leads the offense with 2.82 kills, while Kristin Heldt and Chelsea Davis average 2.26 and 2.13 kills, respectively. Lauren Bell has gotten eight starts at setter, averaging 8.04 assists, with Stephanie Kaminskas (4.43 assists) getting the other four starts. Breanna Holliday is tops on the team with 4.74 digs, and Jamie McDonald is pacing the way with 0.67 blocks.

About Campbell
The Camels own a 5-9 record, with four of their wins coming against MEAC opponents (North Carolina Central twice, Morgan State and Hampton). Campbell needed five sets to defeat Hampton, while the other three MEAC matches and its win over UNC Wilmington were 3-0 victories.

Jordan Reaves carries the offense with 2.76 kills, nearly twice as many kills as the next best player. With 6.89 assists, Heather Wilson sets the pace of the offense, while defensively, Kelsey Campbell and Reaves average 2.82 and 2.71 digs. Annie Kobeski provides defense as well with 0.93 blocks, and Lindsey Coats (0.76) and Kelsey Marek (0.74) back her up at the net.

NSU finally kicks off its home schedule in a big way, with three matches in four days next week. NSU will host North Carolina A&T Tuesday, followed by its MEAC opener against Hampton Wednesday and Coppin State on Friday. All three matches are set to start at 6 p.m.
