Lambert, King Garner Weekly MEAC Football Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State sophomore safety Keenan Lambert and freshman linebacker Deon King were named MEAC Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced Monday by the conference office.

Lambert and King were two key cogs in the Spartans' 30-0 victory over Morgan State on Saturday, the team's second shutout of the season. Lambert finished with four tackles, one tackle for lost yardage. He was also a big part of stopping the Bears' passing game, intercepting one pass and deflecting a career-high three others. His first-quarter interception – one of five takeaways and four interceptions by the NSU defense – set up NSU inside the Bears' 25-yard line and led to an NSU touchdown.

King had another of NSU's season-high four picks, and returned it 15 yards for a first-quarter score that gave the Spartans a 20-0 lead. It was both the first interception and first touchdown of the true freshman's college career. King also added two tackles and one tackle for loss.

Lambert finished the season with 55 tackles, three tackles for loss, six pass breakups and a team-high three interceptions. King, who comes off the NSU bench, ended his rookie campaign with 19 tackles, five tackles for loss, two sacks and three quarterback hurries.

The Spartans, who held Morgan State to 220 yards of total offense, finished their season on a two-game winning streak. NSU is currently second in the MEAC and third in the nation in total defense (278.1 yards per game allowed) entering this weekend's games.
