Match Results

FLORENCE, S.C.
– The 2012 season came to a close for the Norfolk State women's tennis team with a 6-1 loss to Bethune-Cookman Sunday morning in a conference match at the Florence Tennis Center.

The Wildcats secured their 20th win of the season as they improved to 20-6 overall on the season, 5-1 in MEAC play. NSU ended the 2012 campaign 10-11 overall, 2-4 in conference play and fifth in the MEAC Southern Division.

Freshman Kia Batiste gave the Spartans their lone point of the day with a win at the No. 5 singles position, a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Laura Rodriguez. The Wildcats, though, swept through the other four contested singles matches and both contested doubles matches.

Sophomore Maryna Kariuk and freshman Laura Gutierrez dropped their No. 1 doubles match to Chinatsu Kajiwara and Gaby Chinchilla, 8-6, while Stacey Speller and Shereen Peterson-Paul earned an 8-0 win over the NSU duo of senior Naeemah Brooks and junior Rebecca Graff.

The Wildcats won the third doubles match and the sixth singles position by default due to NSU's short-handed lineup.

In singles play, Katarina Szaboova took care of Brooks at the No. 1 spot, 6-0, 6-0, while Speller downed Gutierrez at the No. 2 position, 6-2, 6-0.

At the No. 3 slot, Peterson-Paul handed Graff a 6-4, 6-1 loss, while Gvantsa Robakidze earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory at the fourth singles position.

Brooks, the only senior on the team, finished the season 10-11 overall in singles play and 7-12 in doubles, running her career records to 25-37 and 18-38, respectively.
