ORLANDO, Fla. – Kyle O'Quinn had a memorable NBA summer league debut Monday, scoring 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting as the Orlando Magic downed the Brooklyn Nets, 92-88.
THE BREAKDOWN: O'Quinn was 4-of-5 from the field in the opening quarter as Orlando stormed out to a 27-12 lead, which the Magic built to as many as 22 points in the second quarter. O'Quinn had nice dunks on consecutive possessions in the second quarter. He added four rebounds and two blocked shots in 30 minutes of play.
WHAT LOOKED GOOD: Maalik Wayns' feeds made O'Quinn look REALLY good, but the former Spartan acquitted himself as a post player who can score off the offensive glass and in transition.
WHAT NEEDS TO BE IMPROVED: O'Quinn's committed three turnovers - a bad pass in transition, a three-second call that cost the Magic a bucket and an offensive foul.
WHAT KYLE SAID: “The start sparked my momentum. I was comfortable out there with the veterans. I was feeding off them and they were feeding off me."
WHAT HE LEARNED: “You have to change ends…fast.”
NEXT UP: Detroit on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
