Women’s Tennis Takes on Old Dominion on Saturday

NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk State women's tennis team will open up the 2013 season at Old Dominion University on Saturday at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center. The match begins at 10 a.m.

The Spartans return four letterwinners from last year's team: lone senior Rebecca Graff, junior Maryna Kariuk, and sophomores Kia Batiste and Laura Gutierrez. NSU finished 10-11 last year and posted a 2-4 record in the MEAC with both wins coming over UMES.

NSU also has three new faces to the program this year: freshman Andrea Macchiavello and sophomores Mafalda Lhorca and Yvonne Kamegne.  Macchiavello competed all four years of high school where she competed in National Clay Courts, National Hard Courts, and the Southern Open. Kamgne is a transfer from N.C. Wesleyan that had some success her first year of college. Lhorca sat out last season due to NCAA eligibility rules.

The Lady Monarchs were 13-10 last season and return First-Team All-CAA selection Diana Ivanova.
