CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team wrapped up the fall tournament schedule over the weekend at the ITA Regional hosted by the University of Virginia.
Freshman Liza Gordeeva fell to William & Mary's Nabila Farah, 6-0, 6-1 in the opening round.
Also competing in singles play was sophomore Andrea Macchiavello, who suffered a 7-6, 6-4 loss to Marshall's Anne Gulsurd in the opening match of the consolation bracket.
Macchiavello also teamed up with junior Mafalda Lhorca in doubles play, where they lost to Pitt's Jocelyn Lu and Taylor Washington, 8-1.
"This tournament really gave us a measuring stick to see where we need to improve," said associate head coach Torrie Browning. "We played against some tough competition from schools that are in the ACC, CAA, and Conference USA. Playing tough opponents like this will continue to get us ready for competition in the MEAC."
NSU will return to the courts on Jan. 18 against Old Dominion.
