Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. – Norfolk State fell to Florida A&M by a 3-0 score on Friday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the MEAC tournament at Coppin State's Physical Education Complex, closing out the 2013 season for the Spartan volleyball team.
The Rattlers, the top seed in the Southern Division, easily handled NSU in the opening set, 25-15, before the Spartans kept it close in the next two sets, 25-22 and 26-24.
Norfolk State, the No. 4 seed in the Northern Division, ended its campaign with an 11-18 overall record.

Goda Jankauskaite and sophomore
Jessica Johnson helped the NSU offense hit a respectable .245 for the match. Jankauskaite added 12 kills on a .381 attack percentage in her final collegiate match, and Johnson tallied 11 kills while hitting .450.
Katherine Huanec led the Rattlers with 17 kills with no attack errors, hitting .531. Ginna Lopez-Chavez added nine kills and also did not commit an attack error to go with six blocks. Florida A&M hit .364 as a team and had an 11-5 edge in blocks.
FAMU jumped out to a 10-3 lead to start the match, but NSU used a 6-1 run to cut the deficit to two, 11-9. The Rattlers won 10 of the next 13 points to pull away.
The Spartans called timeout facing an 8-5 deficit in the second set. The teams went back and forth until Johnson had a block and a kill to put NSU up, 13-12. Florida A&M took the lead back at 17-14, but the Spartans did not back down, winning five straight. Senior
Coralie Jarema had three straight service aces during that stretch, but NSU's two-point edge quickly evaporated.
Jankauskaite had seven kills in the second set.
Then in the third, the Spartans were all over the Rattlers, taking a 9-4 lead and forcing a FAMU timeout. The Rattlers won seven straight, but then NSU came back and won four straight, the last two thanks to blocks by sophomore
Janay Frazier.
The Rattlers took the lead right back and stretched it to four, 23-19. NSU fought to the end, winning five of six to force extra points.
Jankauskaite finished with 332 kills on the season, the second most all-time in NSU single-season annals. She also finished with 525 career kills in two years along with 135 blocks, 67 digs and 20 service aces.
Jarema, meanwhile, totaled 377 career kills with 189 digs, 137 blocks and 51 service aces.
Jarema and Jankauskaite finished their careers fourth and sixth, respectively, in blocks assists at NSU, as well as 10th and 12th in total blocks. Jankauskaite also stands eighth in career kills.
