NSU Takes on UTPA at UTSA Thanksgiving Classic on Friday

NORFOLK, Va.
- The Norfolk State women's basketball team is looking for its first road win of the season as they head to San Antonio, Texas to take on the University of Texas-Pan American on Friday at the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center.

All-Time Series: This is the first meeting between NSU and UT-Pan American.

Last Time Out: Quineshia Leonard and Rae Corbo each scored 14 points to lead Norfolk State past Wofford 67-59 on Sunday afternoon at Joseph Echols Hall. Corbo has scored in double-figures in all four games this season.

NSU led by as many as 15 points after freshman Kieera Basey nailed a 3-pointer to make the score 36-21 with 1:47 left in the first half.

The Spartans finished the game shooting 35.1 percent (26-of-74) on the afternoon. NSU also shot a season-high 91.7 percent (11-of-12) from the free-throw line. NSU also outrebounded Wofford, 50-29.

Basey and Powell contributed a career-high of eight points each. Powell also tallied eight rebounds. Senior forward Rachel Gordon had six points and 15 rebounds. With her 15 boards, Gordon moved into ninth place all-time in career rebounding at NSU. She now has 768 total and needs two more rebounds to move into eighth place.

Wofford went 19-of-52 (36.5 percent) from the field and shot 93.3 percent (14-of-15) from the line.

About UT-Pan American: UTPA (2-2) is coming off of a 67-57 loss to VCU on Nov. 21 at UTPA Fieldhouse in Edinburg, Texas.

The Broncs shot 32.3 percent (21-of-65) from the floor and 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from the free-throw line. UTPA was also 8-for-31 from beyond the arc.

UTPA had two players finish in double-figures, including KaeLynn Boyd, who led the Broncs with14 points. Brittany Bush tallied 12 points and six rebounds.

Scoring Leaders: Rae Corbo leads NSU in scoring averaging 17.0 points per game followed by Ebony Brown, who is averaging 12.3 points per game.

Winning the Rebounding Battle: The Spartans outrebounded Wofford, 50-29.

Owning the Paint: NSU outscored Wofford 30-24 in the paint.

Moving Up the Charts: Rachel Gordon moved into 9th place all-time in career rebounding at NSU after posting 15 rebounds against Wofford on Nov. 24. She needs two more rebounds to move into eighth place.

NCAA, MEAC Leaderboard: As a team NSU currently ranks No. 17 in the NCAA in free-throw percentage (78.3%). Rachel Gordon currently ranks No. 7 in the nation in rebounds per game (12.5) and Rae Corbo is No. 60 in free throw percentage (90.9%).

As a team NSU currently ranks in the top 5 in 11 different categories in the MEAC, while NSU players rank in the top 5 in 5 different categories, including Rae Corbo, who leads the league in free-throw percentage at 94.4 percent and Rachel Gordon, who leads the league in rebounds with 12.5 per game.
