Amber Brown Leads NSU Past Virginia Wesleyan, 104-67, in Exhibition Play

NORFOLK, Va.
– Freshman Amber Brown tallied 19 points and seven rebounds to lead the Norfolk State women's basketball team over Virginia Wesleyan, 104-67, in an exhibition game on Monday night at Joseph Echols Hall.

Aside from Brown, NSU had four other Spartans score in double figures. Senior Rachel Gordon added 18 points and seven rebounds. Junior Quineshia Leonard also added 18 points and eight rebounds. Junior Ebony Brown posted 14 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Dominique Harper finished with 10 points and three assists.

NSU scored 17 of the first 19 points en route to a 52-19 halftime score. The Spartans did not commit any turnovers in the first half.

The Spartans outscored Virginia Wesleyan in the paint, 42-12. The Spartans shot 33-of-61 (54.1 percent) from the field. NSU also held a 50-36 advantage on the boards.

Andrea Paphites led the Marlins with 17 points, which included four 3-pointers. Paphites was the only player from Virginia Wesleyan to score in double-figures.

The Marlins shot only 32.3 percent (21-65) from the field and went 10-for-32 (31.3 percent) from behind the arc.

The Spartans will open the regular season at Morehead State on Friday at 12 pm.
