NORFOLK, Va. - Head coach Debra Clark and the Norfolk State women's basketball team take on Coppin State on Saturday, Feb. 2 in the Physical Education Complex in Baltimore, Md. Tip-off is at 2 p.m.

Last Time Out: The Spartans (3-15, 1-6) are coming off of a 76-41 loss to Hampton on Jan. 26 at Joseph Echols Hall. The Spartans were held to just 28.6 (16-of-56) percent shooting on the afternoon. Aivah Parham led NSU with 12 points and five rebounds. Aside from Parham, Rachel Gordon was the only other Spartan in double-figures as she finished the game with 10 points and four rebounds.
The Lady Pirates shot 42.4 (25-of-59) percent from the field. Four Hampton players reached double-figures including Allen, who led all scorers with 22 points. Avant posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Bennett also had 15 points while Hamilton was just shy of a double-double as she finished the game with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Hampton outrebounded NSU 43-32 and outscored the Spartans 22-20 in the paint. The Lady Pirates also outscored NSU 9-6 on second chance points.
Senior Recca Trice had three assists in the game against Hampton to move into fifth place all-time in the NSU record book for career assists. She now has 429 career assists and 97 assists on the season.
All-Time Series: Coppin State leads the series with NSU, 18-6. The last time the Spartans defeated the Eagles was on Jan. 31, 2005 where NSU came away with a 65-57 victory.
About Coppin State: The Lady Eagles (8-13, 4-4) are coming off of a 70-64 loss to N.C. A&T on Jan. 28 at the Corbett Sports Center in Greensboro, N.C. Coppin State shot 34.3 (23-of-67) percent from the floor while the Aggies finished the game shooting 40.7 (22-of-54) percent. Leola Spotwood led the Lady Eagles with 22 points and three steals. Aside from Spotwood, two other Coppin State players scored in double-figures. Larrisa Carter recorded a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds while Kyra Coleman added 13 points, six rebounds and three steals.
Last Time Against Coppin State: The Spartans suffered a 56-51 loss to Coppin State on Jan. 19 in Joseph Echols Hall. Junior Aivah Parham led NSU with 12 points and six rebounds. The Spartans shot 36.7 (18-of-49) percent from the floor on the night while the Lady Eagles were held to 30.6 (19-of-62) percent shooting. Sophomore Ebony Brown had 11 points and junior Rachel Gordon was just shy of a double-double as she finished the night with eight points and eight rebounds.
Shawntae Payne led Coppin State with 18 points, 12 of which came from behind the arc. Leola Spotwood tallied 11 points and eight rebounds in the win over NSU.
Scoring Leaders: Rachel Gordon leads NSU in scoring averaging 10.1 points per game followed by Kashay Barnes, who is averaging 9.3 points per game. Barnes scored a career-high 25 points in the Spartans overtime loss to UMES on Jan. 12.
Parham Stepping Up: Aivah Parham led the Spartans in scoring against Hampton on Jan. 26. This was the third consecutive game she led NSU in scoring. Parham also posted a career-high 34 points and 12 rebounds in the Spartans 81-68 victory over Morgan State on Jan. 21. The game against Mor¬gan State marked her first double-double and her fifth game that she finished scoring in double-figures.
MEAC, NCAA Leaderboard: As a team NSU currently ranks in the top 5 in six different categories in the MEAC, while NSU players also rank in the top 5 in six different categories, including Rachel Gordon, who leads the league in rebounding at 10.8 boards per game. Gordon also currently ranks 21st in the NCAA in rebounding. Recca Trice is second in the league for assists and is ranked 30th in the nation in assists per games.
Cracking the top 10: Recca Trice's three assists in the game against Hampton on Jan. 26 moved her into fifth place all-time in the NSU record book for career assists. Trice has 97 assists on the season and her 429 career assists puts her 13 away from tying Norma Moore for fourth all-time.
Rachel Gordon's eight rebounds in the game against Coppin State on Jan. 19 moved her into 11th place all-time in the NSU record book for career rebounds. Gordon has 162 rebounds on the season and her 629 career rebounds puts her 82 away from tying Andrea Watts for 10th all-time.
