NSU Tops Chowan, 6-1

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team won its fourth consecutive match as they claimed a 6-1 victory over Chowan on Friday afternoon.

The Spartans (7-5) opened the match by dropping two doubles matches against Chowan. Natalya Kamenshchikova and Breanne Johnson led off for the Hawks (11-11) with an 8-3 win over Yvonne Kamegne and Laura Gutierrez. Holly Egnor and Brittney Moser defeated Rebecca Graff and Kia Batiste, 8-6.

Andrea Macchiavello and Mafalda Lhorca captured NSU's lone win in the doubles competition with an 8-1 victory over Jessica De Backre and Straffai Cleveland.

NSU swept the singles matches. Macchiavello won her fourth straight singles match as she claimed a 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 win over Kamenshchikova. Kamegne also continued her winning ways as she upended Johnson, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. The Spartans won the last four singles matches in straight sets. In match No. 3, Gutierrez won against Egnor, 6-4, 6-2. Lhorca defeated De Backre, 6-0, 6-1. At the No. 5 slot, Graff claimed a 6-0, 6-1 win over Cleveland. Batiste closed things out with a 6-3, 6-3 win against Jennifer Humphrey.
 
The Spartans will host Delaware on Wednesday at the NSU Tennis Complex in Norfolk, Va. The matches are set to begin at 2 p.m.
