NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State freshman Jamarian Bates was named the MEAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week for March 11-17, the conference announced.

Bates placed third overall and second among collegiate competitors in the long jump at the Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C., on March 16 to open the outdoor season. Bates' top jump was 23 feet, 6.25 inches.

Bates, the MEAC indoor long jump champion, also won the conference weekly field award three times during indoor season.
