NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss to Delaware on Wednesday afternoon at the NSU Tennis Complex.
The Lancers (4-10) snapped the Spartans' (7-7) four-game winning streak.
Andrea Macchiavello and Mafalda Lhorca fell to 4-4 in doubles play with an 8-2 loss to Allison Shulman and Marta Pinyol. In match two, Malin Allugurin and Sarah Moomau defeated Laura Gutierrez and Maryna Kariuk. Gutierrez and Kariuk are 0-2 on the season. Yvonne Kamegne and Kia Batiste competed at the No. 3 position and suffered an 8-2 loss to Hannah Hill and Nicole Parker. Batiste and Kamegne are also 0-2 overall in doubles play.
The Spartans dropped three matches in singles play. Allugurin claimed a 6-0, 6-0 win against Gutierrez (6-7) in match two. At the No. 3 spot, Shulman defeated Kamegne, 6-2, 6-3. Kamegne fell to 6-7 overall in singles competition. Parker closed out the singles matches for Longwood with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Rebecca Graff.
Three of the singles matches were not completed because Longwood clinched the fourth point. Andrea Macchiavello was down to Pinyol, 2-6, 4-4 in match one. Moomau was up 6-3, 4-6, 3-0 against Lhorca at the No. 4 slot. Hill was up 6-4, 3-2 against Kariuk.
The Spartans will travel to Princess Anne, Md., on Sunday to take on Coppin State and Maryland Eastern Shore. NSU will face Coppin State at 1 p.m. and then they will face UMES at 4 p.m.
