NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State redshirt senior linebacker Jamal Giddens has accepted an invitation to attend a rookie mini-camp with the Green Bay Packers.

Giddens will report to the team May 9. He will work alongside other free agent signees and rookie draft choices in hopes of earning a contract with the team.

Giddens was limited to nine games last season, including eight starts. He missed two games, against North Carolina A&T and Bethune-Cookman, due to a sprained knee. In his nine games, he amassed 45 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, one interception and one fumble recovery. He led the MEAC in forced fumbles with 0.33 per game.

Giddens was named the Division I FCS Defensive Player of the Week by NCAA.com after NSU's season-opening 24-0 win over Virginia State, one of two shutouts by the Spartan defense in 2012. He helped lead a unit which ranked third in the nation in total defense (278.1 yards per game allowed).

In three years with NSU (2010-12), Giddens tallied 132 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks and five forced fumbles.
