NSU Falls to Towson, 4-0

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team suffered a 4-0 loss to Towson on Sunday afternoon.

NSU fell to 9-8 on the season while Towson improved to 10-7 overall.

Freshman Andrea Macchiavello and sophomore Mafalda Lhorca posted the only win for NSU when they defeated Moriah Burke and Lorena Ferrer, 8-5, in match one of the doubles competition. In match two, Nani Lizana and Ariel Burke claimed an 8-2 win over junior Maryna Kariuk and sophomore Yvonne Kamegne. Andrea Samlin and Nisha Shah defeated sophomores Kia Batiste and Laura Gutierrez, 8-5.

The Spartans continued to struggle in the singles matches. Ferrer upended Gutierrez in match two, 6-2, 6-1. In match three, Shah defeated Kamegne, 6-0, 6-2. Samlin claimed a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Kariuk.

Three of the singles matches were not finished because the match was the first to four points. Macchiavello was down against Lizana, 4-6, 4-5. Lhorca led Ariel Burke, 0-6, 6-3, 2-0. Senior Rebecca Graff and Cailey Easdale's match was abandoned at 6-7(4).

NSU will take on Randolph-Macon on Saturday at the NSU Tennis Complex in Norfolk, Va. The match will begin at 3 p.m.
