NSU Claims 5-0 Victory Over Hampton

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team claimed its second straight win of the season with a 5-0 sweep against Hampton on Friday at the Centre Racquet Club.

Sophomore Andrea Macchiavello and junior Mafalda Lhorca led off for the Spartans in the doubles competition posting an 8-0 win over Danielle Butler and Melanie Scott. Freshman Marie Habiyaremye and junior Yvonne Kamegne also claimed an 8-0 victory over Steffy Paez and Daneya Charles. Freshman Liza and junior Krystal Scott won at the No. 3 spot because the Lady Pirates had to default because they only had five players.

In the singles competition, Gordeeva competed at the No. 1 spot. She defeated Butler, 6-0, 6-1. Macchiavello also claimed a singles victory, upending Paez, 6-0, 6-1. Kamegne competed at the No. 3 position and took down Melanie Scott, 6-0, 6-0. Habiyaremye won the No. 6 singles by default because Hampton had only five players.

The Spartans will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. on Feb. 19 to take on UNC-Chapel Hill. Play begins at 4 p.m. at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
