NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team posted a 7-0 victory over Christopher Newport on Saturday afternoon at the Centre Court Racquet Club.

The Spartans are now 3-2 overall. CNU dropped to 0-3 on the season.

NSU started the match off in doubles play. In the No. 1 spot, sophomore Andrea Macchiavello and junior Mafalda Lhorca defeated Katie Carlson and Jodi Noland, 8-0. Junior Yvonne Kamegne and freshman Marie Habiyaremye upended Kelsey Clark and Katlyn Yarborough, 8-2. Freshman Liza Gordeeva and junior Krystal Scott were up 5-4 over Jackie Gaine and Logan Eldridge before the match was abandoned.

Gordeeva started things off for NSU in the singles competition with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Noland. Macchiavello competed at the No. 2 slot and posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory against Gaine. At the No. 3 spot, Lhorca claimed a 6-3, 6-1 win over Eldridge. Scott competed at the No. 4 position. She defeated Carlson, 6-1, 6-0. Habiyaremye upended Yarborough, 6-4, 6-1. Freshman Ana Popovic closed out the singles competition with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Jessica Clark.

The Spartans face North Carolina Central on Sunday in another match at the Centre Court Racquet Club in Newport News, Va. The match gets underway at noon.
