NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team will travel to Orangeburg, S.C. to take on South Carolina State on Saturday. The match time has been moved up to 9:30 a.m. at the Bulldog Courts.
The Spartans (3-3, 1-1) went 1-1 over the weekend, picking up a 7-0 win over Christopher Newport on Friday before falling to North Carolina Central, 4-3, on Saturday at Centre Court Racquet Club in Newport News, Va.
Junior Mafalda Lhorca and freshman Liza Gordeeva picked up MEAC weekly tennis honors on Wednesday for their efforts over the weekend. Lhorca was named MEAC Player of the Week after she defeated CNU's Logan Eldridge, 6-3, 6-1. She also teamed up with sophomore Andrea Macchiavello at the No. 1 spot to claim an 8-0 win against CNU's Katie Carlson and Jodi Noland. In the match against N.C. Central, she picked up a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 over Mia Ramic. Gordeeva was named MEAC Rookie of the Week after taking down CNU's Noland in the No. 1 position, 6-2, 6-1. She and teammate Krystal Scott were also up 5-4 over CNU's Eldridge and Jackie Gaine before the match was abandoned.
S.C. State (1-3) is coming off of a 7-0 loss to North Florida on Saturday at Bulldog Courts. This will be the first conference match of the season for the Lady Bulldogs.
The matchup between NSU and S.C. State comes the week before the annual MEAC Southern Division Roundup. This year's roundup is scheduled for March 8-10 in Florence, S.C.
