NSU owns a 19-14 record on the year after getting knocked out in the semifinal round of the MEAC tournament at the Norfolk Scope on Friday by eventual champion North Carolina Central. The Spartans finished in a tie for third in the MEAC standings at 11-5 while also finishing with the third-most overall wins in the program's D-I era.
Eastern Michigan advanced to the Mid-American Conference semifinals, where the Eagles fell to No. 2 seed Toledo. EMU owns a 21-14 overall record on the year and finished third in the MAC West standings at 10-8. Karrington Ward is the only player in double figures for the Eagles at 12.2 points per game, although three other players score at least nine a game for a team that tallies 64 per contest.
NSU and EMU have never met on the hardwood.
It will mark the third straight postseason appearance for NSU and just the third in the Division I era after the Spartans went to the NCAA tournament in 2012 and played in the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) last year as the MEAC regular season champion.
