Norfolk State University Maintains Full Accreditation

NORFOLK, Va. - The following statement was released Tuesday, Dec. 8 by Norfolk State University Interim President and CEO Eddie N. Moore Jr.:

Dear Norfolk State University Family,
I am pleased to inform you that the Board of Trustees for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) has determined that Norfolk State University (NSU) has satisfied all of its accreditation concerns and has voted to remove the university from probation. As you are aware, NSU was placed on probation in 2014, largely for administrative and procedural matters not related to the quality of our academic enterprise. NSU has been fully and continuously accredited since it first became eligible for accreditation in 1969 and today's news – a positive outcome – ensures that Norfolk State will continue toward improvement, growth and a culture of assessment.
There is no doubt that the probation sanction was challenging for everyone. However, as Spartans, every member of the NSU community rose to the challenge. Norfolk State has emerged as a stronger institution – well-positioned for a brighter future.

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all students, faculty, staff and friends of the University who have supported us throughout this time. Thank you for your confidence and love for this great institution. Behold The Green and Gold!

Forging Onward,
Eddie N. Moore, Jr.
Interim President and CEO
