UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Norfolk State freshman Chris Lee set another indoor school record in the shot put and sprinters D.J. Smith and Steve Coles both finished in the top five in their respective events to set the pace for the Spartan men's track and field team over the weekend at the Penn State National meet.

Lee bested the previous school record in the shot put for the third time this season. His best throw was 53 feet, 0.25 inches, which landed him in eighth place. He also ranks No. 2 in the MEAC in that event.

Smith, a former NCAA outdoor regional qualifier in multiple events, ran his first competitive race since May of 2013 and performed well. He ran a time of 21.66 seconds to place fourth in the invitational section of the 200 meters. That also ranks as the fourth-fastest time in the MEAC this year.

Coles, meanwhile, was runner-up in the 400 meters in a season-best time of 49.07 seconds.

The distance medley relay quartet of Nathnael Meseret, Smith, William Brown Jr. and Desmond Fogg recorded the team's best time in that event this year. Running together for the first time this season, the foursome came in fourth place in 10 minutes, 19.21 seconds.

The Spartans compete at the Vince Brown Invitational hosted by CNU next Sunday to conclude their indoor schedule.
