Scott Announces Signing of Local Products Awanna, Lomax

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State University football coach Latrell Scott announced Tuesday the addition of two more recruits who signed national letters of intent this week, wide receiver Chukwuma "Chuma" Awanna from Deep Creek High School by way of Fork Union Military Academy and kicker/punter Robert "Bo" Lomax of Hampton High School.

Awanna (6-3, 185) played last fall at Fork Union Military Academy along with four other members of the 2015 NSU recruiting class. Prior to FUMA, he had a successful career at Deep Creek High School in Chesapeake. In his last two seasons with the Hornets (2012 and 2013), he amassed totals of 48 receptions for 928 yards and nine touchdowns. Awanna was a second-team all-district pick in each of his last two years at Deep Creek, and was named to the All-757 team as a junior.

"Chuma also comes from a good high school program," Scott said. "He is a big, physical presence at wide receiver and we hope he can have an immediate impact for us."

Lomax (5-11, 195) was a first-team all-conference kicker and punter as a senior this past fall at Hampton High in Hampton, Va. Lomax was 3-for-4 on field goal attempts as a senior, including a game-winning 35-yarder on the final play of a victory over Kecoughtan. His longest field goal last year was 38 yards, and he tallied 50 total points as a senior. Lomax was also the second-team all-conference goalkeeper for the Crabbers' soccer team as a junior.

"Bo comes from a great high school program and I look for him to compete for immediate time at all three of our kicking positions," Scott said.

The signings of Awanna and Lomax brings Scott's first recruiting class at NSU to 15 thus far. Fourteen are from the state of Virginia and five are from the Hampton Roads area.
