HAMPTON, Va. – Steve Coles blistered the track at Armstrong Stadium with a winning time of 20.76 seconds in the 200 meter dash on Saturday, one of five first-place finishes for the NSU men at the Hampton University Relays.
 
Coles' 200m time is more than a half-second better than his previous PR he set the week prior at the Colonial Relays (21.39). It is also the fastest time in the MEAC so far this outdoor season by more than half a second, and is faster than all but six times in the NCAA East Region this year.
 
Coles also set a PR in the 400 meters, clocking a time of 47.31 seconds en route to a fourth-place finish.
 
Also on Saturday, redshirt freshman Romero Hines set a new personal-best in winning the long jump. Hines' best effort was 24 feet, 3.5 inches, the No. 2 mark in the MEAC thus far this spring.
 
Sophomore Desmond Fogg earned a hard-fought victory in the 1,500 meters, running a time of 4 minutes, 7.77 seconds. Fogg edged Virginia Union's Donovon Mundy at the finish line by .07.
 
On Friday, two Spartan field athletes won their respective events. Junior Clifton Thompson won the discus with a best throw of 152-6, and Willard Ward placed first in the pole vault (13-5.25).
 
Other standout performances at the meet were turned in by David Kibet, who placed second in the 5,000 meters; Joseph Boyd, who was runner-up in the high jump; Allan Frye, who took third in the 400 hurdles; and Sammy Kiptoo, who was fourth in the 1,500 meters.
 
The Spartans compete at the Morgan State Legacy Meet next weekend in Baltimore, Md.
