NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State women's volleyball team will open up the home portion of its schedule on Tuesday when the Spartans host Radford for a 5 p.m. non-conference matchup at Joseph Echols Hall.

live video feed available for the match though the department's website. The live video carries a cost of $5 per match.

The Spartans enter the contest holding a 1-8 record after earning their first win of the season on Saturday against Alabama State, 3-2. Radford won two of its three matches this weekend at the Georgia State Invitational to improve its record to 5-4 on the year.

Senior
Angie Darcus rebounded from the first two matches of last weekend to post 14 kills on Saturday night against North Carolina A&T. She leads the Spartans with 2.94 kills per set, with the next closest player sophomore
Hope Forsythe at 1.68. NSU has also gotten contributions from sophomore
Clarke Tyler (1.54), junior
Dominique Parker (1.42) and senior
Janay Frazier (1.32).

Darcus also has a team-leading 13 service aces on the season, while senior
Darcy Moore has tallied 7.23 assists per set. Tyler (14) and Parker (13) lead the way in total blocks for a squad that averages just 1.03 per set. Junior libero
Alex Irizarry adds 3.29 digs per set, with Moore (2.66) and Darcus (2.29) also chipping in.

Last Time OutAfter a 3-0 setback against UNCG on Friday, NSU played a pair of five-set matches on Saturday during the Spartan-Aggie Invitational in Greensboro, N.C. Norfolk State pulled out a 3-2 win over Alabama State after the Hornets rallied to win sets 3 and 4. Against North Carolina A&T later in the day, the Spartans won the first and third sets, but the Aggies took the second and fourth and held back NSU in the fifth for the victory.

Series HistoryNSU has played Radford twice in its history, the first time in 2005 at the Radford Invitational and then again in 2010, also at a tournament in Radford. Both times, the Highlanders came away with 3-0 victories.

About RadfordThe Highlanders defeated Georgia State (3-2) and Grambling State (3-0) this weekend after dropping their previous four matches. Radford also picked a win over Pac-12 Washington State to start the year. As a team, the Highlanders hit .216, thanks in part to Maddie Palmer (4.32 kills per set, .242 attack percentage) and Megan Short (3.00 kills, .342 attack percentage). Savanna Burton is also a player to look out for, as she tallied 2.79 kills.

Haley Kleespies averages 10.91 assists and also leads the team with 11 service aces, although as a team Radford averages just 1.08 per set. On defense, Kelby Jackson (3.74 digs) and Palmer (3.24) pace the way, while Short leads all players with 0.71 blocks per set. The team does average more than 15 digs per set as well.

Up NextThe Spartans will finish up non-conference play this weekend at the JMU Invitational. NSU will take on North Carolina Central on Friday and Georgetown and host James Madison on Saturday.
