Box Score NORFOLK, Va. - Kenyata Hendrix scored a career-high 28 points to lead visiting Savannah State to a 68-53 win over Norfolk State on Monday night at Echols Hall.
Hendrix hit 11-of-20 from the floor, including 4-of-8 from 3-point range. Center Tiyonda Davis added a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds for SSU (6-12, 3-4 MEAC).
Kayla Roberts scored 12 points and
Siobhan Beslow recorded her MEAC-leading ninth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds to pace NSU (0-18, 0-8 MEAC).
Hendrix hit three 3-pointers in the first quarter to get her team off to an early lead. But NSU kept within striking distance in the opening half, trailing 33-25 heading into the intermission.
But the Lady Tigers shot a sizzling 70.6 percent (12-of-17) in the second half to pull away from the Spartans. SSU missed its first field goal attempt of the third quarter, then hit its next nine attempts from the floor. An 8-0 capped that flurry of made field goals, with Hendrix hitting a trey for the ninth consecutive make. Davis then added a free throw to stretch the SSU lead to 53-36.
NSU trailed by at least 13 the rest of the way.
SSU hit 25-of-48 from the floor for the game (52.1 percent) and outrebounded the Spartans, 35-26.Â
Yazmen Hannah scored nine points for NSU.
Koryn Lawrence tied her career high with five steals and Roberts had three of the Spartans' six blocked shots.
Davis hit 6-of-9 from the floor for SSU while adding a team-high four assists and three blocks. Jeremica Edwards chipped in with 10 points.
NSU hits the road for its next three games, starting with a matchup at first-place Hampton on Saturday at 4 p.m.
