George Mason Invitational Results
LEESBURG, Va. – Junior
Ronald Korir finished first overall to lead the Norfolk State men's cross country team to a second-place finish at the George Mason Invitational on Saturday morning.
Korir helped the Spartans keep alive their streak of winning the individual title in every meet this season. He finished the 8,000-meter course in a time of 24 minutes, 53.1 seconds to notch his first-place finish of the season.
NSU had three other runners to finish in the in the top 10 of the George Mason Invitational.
Sophomore
Anteneh Girma finished third in a time of 25:17.0. Freshman
Felix Kiprotich finished fifth in a time of 25:25.5 and junior Haileysus Demsie ran a time of 25:43.0 to eighth. Girma and Demsie set their personal-best 8K times in the process.
Sophomore
Tomas Fantaye also posted a PR, rounding out the Spartans' top five finishers with a time of 26:06 to place 16th.
George Mason won the meet with 29 points, while Norfolk State finished second with 30 points. Kent State (71 points), Mount St. Mary's (119 points), Navy (132 points) and Christendom College (180) rounded out the final team standings.
The Spartans compete at the NCAA Pre-Nationals on Saturday, Oct. 15, in Terre Haute, Ind.
