NORFOLK, Va. – The junior duo of
Zaynah Robinson and
Dan Robinson came away with two of the three weekly honors on Monday when the MEAC office announced the first accolades of the 2016-17 season.
Zaynah Robinson earned the league's Player of the Week award, while
Dan Robinson garnered Defensive Player of the Week.
Zaynah Robinson averaged 19.5 points in a pair of games, including a career-high 21 in a near upset at Mississippi State on Friday. He shot 7-of-14 from the floor with five assists, three rebounds and three steals in that four-point loss. He then tallied 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting with seven assists, six rebounds and two steals in a 78-58 win over Shenandoah on Sunday night at home.
For the weekend, Robinson averaged 19.5 points with 6.0 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game in those two games.
Dan Robinson had a combined six blocks in the two contests with a pair of steals to earn the league's defensive weekly honor. He finished with seven points, three rebounds, three blocks and a steal at Mississippi State, and then had three more blocks with two rebounds, two points and a steal against Shenandoah.
Tyler Jones of Maryland Eastern Shore earned the MEAC's Rookie of the Week award.
NSU will host Elizabeth City State on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. in a doubleheader with the women's team.
