WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Norfolk State men's cross country team finished second Friday night at the William and Mary Invitational behind a 1-2 finish by freshman

The Spartans finished with 33 points, trailing only host William & Mary's 26. This was the second consecutive meet for NSU that involved a ranked opponent. The Spartans opened the season at the University of Virginia, who is ranked in the top 25 nationally, while William and Mary is ranked 11th in the Southeast Region.
Kiprotich finished the 6,000-meter course in a time of 18 minutes, 37.8 seconds in his first college race. He just placed ahead of Korir, who finished in second for the second consecutive race with a time of 18:38.1.
Freshman
Festus Bett backed up his season opening win with a seventh-place finish in a time of 19:11.7. VCU transfer sophomore
Anteneh Girma finished 11
th in a time of 19:17.3, while junior
Haileyesus Demsie finished 14th in his season debut with a time of 19:32.8.
The Spartans will be back in action in next week when they travel to Grimesland, N.C., to compete in the East Carolina Pirate Invitational on Friday.
