LEESBURG, Va. – Sophomore
Martha Bissah notched her second individual race victory in as many weeks, placing first for the NSU women's cross country team on Saturday morning at the George Mason Invitational.
Led by Bissah, the Spartan women finished fifth out of eight teams in the field.
Bissah clocked a time of 21 minutes, 56.1 seconds on the course, which was just a shade over 6,000 meters (6,043). She was 18 seconds ahead of her closest competition.
In the three races Bissah has completed this season, she has two first-place finishes and a second. She also won at the Cappy Anderson Invitational last week in Maryland.
Candice Higgins was NSU's next-highest finisher, crossing the line 23rd in 23:45.3.
Caroline Samoei was 35th in 24:26.4, and
Ashah Koech was 50th in 25:06.8.
Nelly Jerop rounded out the top five in 69th in a time of 30:38.6.
The Spartans are off next weekend before competing at the East Carolina Invitational on Oct. 13.
