Wade Named to VaSID All-State Team

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State senior guard Jonathan Wade was voted to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) University Division All-State second team when the organization announced its postseason basketball awards on Thursday.
 
The VaSID University Division consists of all 14 NCAA D-I institutions in the state. A total of 10 players throughout the state were honored by the organization. Voting was done by sports information and athletic communication professionals from all collegiate divisions throughout the state.
 
Wade was a first-team All-MEAC selection this season after averaging 19.4 points per game, good for second in the league. He ranked fourth in the nation this year in largest scoring increase from the year before (+13.5). Wade garnered first-team NABC All-District and first-team BOXTOROW HBCU Division I All-America honors this year as well.
 
He led the team in rebounding (6.8) to go along with 1.9 assists per game. Wade set the school's D-I record for free throws (163) while scoring the second-most points (658) since moving up from Division II. He scored in double figures in 33 of 34 games and ended the season 52nd in the nation in scoring.
 
T.J. Cline of Richmond was named the VaSID Player of the Year, while teammate De'Monte Buckingham earned the Rookie of the Year award. In addition, Virginia Tech head coach Buzz Williams was voted the state coach of the year.
 
NSU finished 17-17 overall and 12-4 in the MEAC, good for second place in the regular season standings. The Spartans advanced to the championship game of the MEAC tournament for the first time in five years.
 
Wade is one of three seniors NSU will have to replace going into next season.
