MEAC Outdoor Final Results
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman
Jaylen Banks concluded his first MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship by earning a silver medal in the 400-meter hurdles as the Spartan men placed third overall on Saturday at Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T.
The North Carolina A&T men won the meet with 178 points, with Bethune-Cookman placing second with 115.5. NSU was next with 97.5 points.
Banks earned silver in the 400-meter hurdles in a personal-best time of 51.85 seconds, the highest finish for the Spartan men on Saturday. Banks and teammate
Rashad Ramsey both reached the medal stand, a Ramsey took third in 52.31.
In all, the Spartan men earned six top-five finishes on Saturday. Freshman
Felix Kiprotich had two by himself, placing fourth in both the 1,500 meters (4:02.18) and the 5,000 (15:36.21). He scored in four events during the meet, taking fifth in the steeplechase on Friday and eighth in the 10,000 on Thursday.
Kiprotich actually placed one spot behind teammate
Ronald Korir in the 5,000 on Saturday. Korir crossed the line third in 15:28.02. He scored in three events during the week, as he placed fourth in the 10,000 and seventh in the steeplechase.
The last top-five effort came in the 4x100 relay. The team of Ramsey,
Romero Hines,
Michael-Thomas Brown and
Jaylen Carr came in fifth in 41.20 seconds.Â
The Spartans also notched a trio of sixth-place performances on Saturday. Sophomore
Justin Pinder scored in an individual MEAC championship event for the first time, taking sixth in the 400 in 47.95 seconds. Sophomore
Anteneh Girma joined Korir and Kiprotich in scoring in the 5,000. Girma was sixth in 15:39.93.
The 4x400 relay team of Banks, Pinder, Ramsey and Brown ended the meet by placing sixth in a time of 3:14.10.
The Spartans will look to send multiple athletes to the NCAA East Preliminary Round later this month at the University of Kentucky. Accepted entries will be announced in the coming weeks.
